Analyst share of voice is a vendor's proportion of the total analyst mentions in a defined market over a defined period, measured against named competitors.
The measurement requires a defined corpus, a defined period and a defined competitive set; changing any of the three changes the number.
Analyst share of voice vs. media share of voice
The corpus is analyst research rather than press. Access, citation conventions and publication volume are all different, and the two figures are not comparable.
Why it matters
It is one of the few AR metrics that is comparative by construction, which is why it survives contact with a board deck when sentiment measures do not.
It is also the metric most sensitive to how the competitive set is drawn. A share-of-voice figure without a stated comparator list is not a measurement.
