Vendor briefing document

A vendor briefing document is the deck or written submission a company prepares for an analyst interaction, setting out its category, positioning, capabilities and evidence.

It is typically maintained centrally, reused across firms, and updated on a release or quarterly cadence.

Briefing document vs. sales deck

A sales deck addresses someone deciding whether to buy. A briefing document addresses a professional sceptic who has seen your competitors' equivalent, is scoring against published criteria, and has no purchase to make.

The two are frequently the same file with the pricing slide removed, which is visible immediately to the reader.

Why it matters

It is the most reused artifact in analyst relations and often the least revised, which means a positioning error inside it propagates across every analyst relationship at once.

That reuse is also what makes it diagnostic. If the briefing document cannot state the category, the buyer and the claim in terms a stranger could repeat back, the problem it reveals is not a briefing problem.
