An Omdia Universe is a comparative vendor assessment that evaluates solution capability alongside strategy, execution and market presence, classifying vendors as Leaders, Challengers or Prospects.
Capabilities are scored on a defined scale with weightings set in advance by Omdia rather than negotiated during the study. For selected reports Omdia incorporates peer-review feedback from TrustRadius.
Universe vs. Omdia's other formats
Omdia runs several vendor-selection formats. Universe is the full comparative assessment. Market Radar and On the Radar serve different market maturities and depths of coverage.
Being covered by Omdia is therefore not the same as being in a Universe, and the distinction is worth making precisely in any claim.
Why it matters
Pre-set weightings make the published criteria unusually informative. Because Omdia decides in advance what proportion of the assessment each capability carries, the criteria document is a direct statement of what the analyst believes the market should value.
Read as an evaluation input, that is a scoring guide. Read as market intelligence, it is a third party's independent answer to the question your positioning is supposed to answer — which is the more useful reading and the one almost nobody takes.
